Great video, but you’d be remiss not to warn people that Porches for nearly a decade of production suffer from bore scoring, which requires an entire engine rebuild. Porsche won’t allow Porsche SA’s to sell that era of vehicle preowned because it is a catastrophic problem that they have acknowledge will eventually occur.

I have to say the N52 engine in the later E85 Z4s is a far superior lump. It really is worth revving out to the 7k redline. Power builds throughout. My N52 2.5si is about as quick as the M54 3.0. Engine is lighter too. Luv and Peace.

When the traffic is light I don’t mind so much as you do have space to go around them either way. Trouble is when traffic builds up everyone starts queueing in the far right lane until the traffic literally stops there and lane one becomes the fastest. If you can’t complete the manoeuvre you mustn’t start overtaking in the first place. It’s scary how delusional and entitled people can be.

For 500 quid you can make two mods, an android head unit that gives you reversing camera and the same things your phone does, apps, Internet, UA-cam etc. You can also remap th3 engine. The 125 is an electronically down tuned 130i. It's the exact same engine but they use the ecu to lower the power rather than making different engines and parts. So for 200 quid you can have the 130i map programmed and get 280 hp and 80 more torques with no risk at all to the engine or having to fit upgraded parts. You get a very noticeable acceleration improvement and your mpg isn't hammered and you can even have a little less power gain and have them tune for mpg so you get 270 bhp but higher fuel efficiency. Im looking for a 125 atm and the first 500 I will spend will be 300 on an android head unit and a 200 remap to make it the full 280 the engine was built to run at!

I put on Michelin Pilot Sport 4's they ride nice, made the car handle much better and quieted the ride significantly.

Ive had many cars now in my 40s but for the last 7 years ive owned a e46 330ci m sport 2006 Topaz blue beige interior auto box best car ever owned, she always needs work but once your on top of mechanicals and service them there great cars and the engine is well the best BMW did NA straight 6, wings go but loads parts online as Joel said and ive had mine on the motorway upto 38mpg shell 99 fuel.

Considering the replacement for a new (or newer AC90), I would fix what needs to be fixed and keep it safe, I would just fix it. I have just over 200,000 on my 06 XC90 and just had the second timing belt/water pump replaced my only issue is it is stuck in Park and I found a few go arounds for that. My CLOSEST dealer is 5 hours away. I live in BFE Montana. I'll have to go and check out our second video.

I have a 2005 325ci Coupe. Had it for 11 years now and no plan on selling it. Completely original and well looked after. Back when I got it the E46 was considered old and outdated compared to the new 3 series generation F30. The future styling of BMW cars after that kinda made the E46 achieve classic bmw status

Hi Joel.. good video. Just completed 2200 miles road around Scotland and Outer Hebrides in my G wagon V6 diesel fully loaded with luggage. Ye it is beautiful and gets better the further north you go. I achieved 26mpg over all but head winds and stationary traffic kill my fuel consumption. Very nearly bought an L322 but opted G Wagen. Seeing this video I may buy a L322 aswell! I guess you were lucky with motorway tail backs and headwinds……??? Big fan of Harry Clarkson and High Peak videos.

All I have to say is 2 tons compared to 2900lbs…same 3.0L drivetrain…no brainer.

Love the content but e46 owners please do not buy Carly .. it's soo shitty compare to the good old tools with OBD cable (Inpa, ...). Error code are notoriously bad in Carly, Smart mecanic needs to be paid and offer useless information's. Can't erase airbag light correctly for example. Please avoid this ... (Ask me how I known ...)

I bought a 2002 E46 325 ci in January , same colour spec, only 3 owners from new and full service history. Really pleased so far ,lovely exhaust sound and drives well over the narrow country roads where I live .

There awesome cars, e46 is the sweet spot for design and style, personally petrol with a straight 6 motor is the one to go for

i have the same colour combo but 330 ci ... yu cant compare its a much nicer diver than 325 or 318

Funnily enough I bought a 2004 325Ci convertible, in the same beautiful Mystic Blue, a few months ago. Now that the rain is finally stopping I can enjoy it in the sunshine! It's only done 86k miles, and I've been refreshing various parts of it in between the showers so it's good for the summer. Got the extended Nappa leather in light yellow (still looks beige to me, which is fine...) and birch wood trim. They are a great looking car, and as you say there is good parts availability and so much information about them online to help with maintenance. I'm hoping my one will provide some fun summer driving :) Thanks for the video Joel!

Out of interest do you prefer this e46 convertible or the 1 series convertible you reviewed? They seem related and more of the natural successor

No I’m no stranger to the e46. I own two & doubt I will ever sell either! Not 4 speed automatic 5 speed automatic.

A lot of the rattling you will be hearing will be chassis flex, my uncle has the e46 m3 convertible, and the engine is amazing and roof down the sound track is glorious. However the chassis flex does somewhat ruin the party, when you get to a corner you never quite have the confidence to push it. They make good cruisers rather than sporty throw around cars.
